Warm up with a Golden Milk, beetroot & cocoa or chai latte

You might have heard of Golden Milk, an ancient Ayurvedic warm drink based on vegetable milk and turmeric. These days, this “latte” is totally hip and happening and can be found in most good coffee bars. It’s even a fixture at every coffee house on Ibiza! And it’s not just Golden Milk—you can find drinks like this in all kinds of colours and flavours, and they all have their own unique character. Below you’ll find the recipe for the classic Golden Milk, as well as one for a beetroot-cocoa latte and a chai latte.

GOLDEN MILK

Recipe for 1 person

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 220 ml almond milk or oat milk
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tbs water
  • agave or honey to taste (optional)

Preparation

  1. Heat the coconut oil to make it liquid. Mix this with the turmeric, 2 tbs of water and black pepper until it becomes a paste.

  2. Heat the vegetable milk in a small pan, but don’t let it boil.

  3. Mix 1 tbs of the golden paste with some warm milk in a large glass or mug until everything is well blended. Pour the rest of the milk in the glass or mug, and use agave or honey to taste, if desired.

BEETROOT & COCOA LATTE

Beetroot has amazing effects on your health, because it is rich in iron, folic acid and vitamins A and C. Cocoa has been hailed in medical circles as being extremely heart-healthy and is rich in minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium.

Recipe for 1 person

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200 ml almond milk or oat milk
  • 2 tsp beetroot powder (available in organic stores)
  • 1 tsp raw cocoa powder
  • 2 tbs water
  • agave or honey to taste (optional)

Preparation

  • Mix the beetroot powder with the cocoa and 2 tbs water until it become a clump-free paste.
  • Heat the vegetable milk in a small pan, but don’t let it boil.
  • Put the red paste in a glass or mug, pour a bit of milk in, stir thoroughly and then pour the rest of the milk in. Stir and then enjoy!

CHAI LATTE

Originally from India, chai is a flavoured tea beverage made from aromatic Indian spices and herbs. Today, chai lattes are a popular item in most western coffee and tea houses. What sets this one apart, however, is the use of almond or oat milk instead of regular milk.

Recipe for 1 person

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200 ml almond milk or oat milk
  • 2 tbs chai powder (available in an organic store)
  • agave or honey to taste (optional)

Please note: if you can’t find chai powder, you can use chai tea. Dissolve a tea bag into 30 ml of water to make a very strong tea and pour it into the warm vegetable milk.

Preparation

  1. Heat the vegetable milk in a small pan, but don’t let it boil.

  2. Mix the chai powder in a glass or mug with a bit of warm milk. Mix this thoroughly until it becomes a smooth paste. Pour the rest of the milk into the cup and stir.
